Shirley Olson

To capture the essence of a subject at a fleeting moment, is Shirley's goal, in her realistic, artistic style. She works in various media. Clay sculpture, the latest medium of expression, has captured her attention and concentration on portraiture. She pursues this fascination by sculpting from life, at the Evergreen Warehouse, a studio of noted artist and mentor, Tom Ware. Shirley maintained her pursuit of art while raising five sons. When the youngest started school, she did also, to receive an Associate Degree from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. In a later year, she and third son graduated from the University of Colorado. Her degree was Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Denver campus. Selected workshops of acclaimed artists, including nationally known sculptor Charles Parks, provide her continued training. Being a fifth generation descendent of homesteaders and ranchers of the Colorado Territory, inspires her subjects of people and scenes of the early West. Numerous galleries exhibit her works and have distributed these art expressions to Colorado visitors from across the country. National and regional art shows, over an 18 year period, have awarded recognition for her two dimensional art and sculpture. Twice, her watercolors have been selected for the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce Christmas card.
